All EDEL devices are a result of extensive market research, engineered to be the best in class, been through several iterations of development, designed for reliability & exhaustively tested and validated. Below is a brief info of how the EDEL Switches and Dimmer works and the technology behind.
Micro controller based
Each EDEL Switch / Dimmer is driven by a powerful embedded Microcontroller . The microcontroller continuously senses the ambient capacitance of the touch sensor. On detecting a change in capacitance a number of complex signal processing algorithms and filters separate the genuine touch from the electric noise, Static, EMI and Radio Frequency Interference. The genuine touch is used to operate the switch or the dimmer. The microcontroller also enables years of reliable, consistent performance with a whole lot of features like Timers, Communication with the outside world ( IR/ WIfi/ Bluetooth), Automatic address configuration etc.
Software Driven Switch
The Embedded Firmware is like the brain behind each switch. EDEL Switches are completely software driven devices. Thanks to intelligent software developed over a period of years, the device is feature loaded yet inexpensive. Features like sensitivity, response time, compensation to physical changes, calibration which are non-obvious to users but make a huge impact on the overall performance are managed by software.
Touch Sensors
EDEL Switches and Dimmers use a Capacitive Touch Sensor to detect user touch. A precisely tuned capacitive sensor on the surface of the PCB is glued below the touch surface. The capacitance between this sensor electrode and adjacent electrodes are continuously measured by the microcontroller. When an user finger comes in between the electrodes, the capacitance is changed due to the changes in the dielectric. This change is processed as a touch. The detected touch goes through various filters and signal processing before it is considered as a genuine touch. A combination of 3 sensors is used to determine the exact position of the touch. This location of the touch is used in the dimmer to determine if the up/ down key is pressed.
Modularity
Users have different needs and preferences when it comes to the number and combination of switches, dimmer and sockets. Modularity is required to easily customize to user needs and provide a cost effective solution.
EDEL is the only modular switch available. EDEK Switches and Dimmers can be used in any combination as per users preference. Changing, rearranging, adding or removing an additional switch or dimmer is an easy task and can be done by any electrician. EDEL Switches automatically configures itself to determine the exact position of the switch in the switch board. This is a huge advantage as it simplifies installation and reduces human error during installation. The Smart software in the switches arbitrates and assigns itself an address to match its position in the switch board.
Retrofit
EDEL switches can be used to easily upgrade from the conventional switches without any change to the Electrical wiring. The 2 Brass terminals on the rear side are the 2 poles of the switch. Wires from a conventional switch can be removed and the same can be connected to the EDEL Switch or dimmer. Switches like Anchor, Roma, Lisha, Cona, Havell, Scheider, LeGrand can be easily replaced with EDEL
Communication
Switches and Dimmers communicate with a centralized receiver which in turn communicates with the outside world. This communication interconnects all the switches and the receiver and is key to achieve lower product cost and flexibility to use IR/ BT/ Zigbee/ Wifi or any other communication later without changing the switch
